Speaking with the Past

After a long adventure exploring Chiang Mai, the explorer returns to his hostel to rest. He slides the bed curtains for privacy, sits upright with his legs criss-crossed, and closes his eyes.

Repeatedly breathing in for 5 seconds and out for another, he settles into a resting mode as he imagines himself alone in a white void of space. From his body, a past version of himself conjures itself to sit across from him.

The two face each other and reflect about the memories that led to that past version to come out. The two conclude the conversation, the past version returns into the explorer, and a new version forms to repeat this process.

The explorer continues talking with his past selves for an hour before returning to this world and falling asleep for a new day to come.

Traveling alone to a new region presents a new opportunity to reinvent yourself. New people surround you, the language is different, and your climate changes. From a world of structure to a world of questions, your life turns upside down.

How do you find peace and structure again in all of this?

That question was something the explorer thought of for many weeks. Through many ups and downs, he found the only peace and structure he could control was within himself. He had to manifest building blocks without guidance from anyone else. Brick by brick, he slowly built up a foundation for himself as he looked inwards at what matters in his life through his memories.
