Take a moment to look at the picture above.

What do you notice first?

Is it the waterfall? The colors? Or the reflection of the water itself?

Perhaps you looked at something entirely different.

The longer I looked at this, the more small details I picked out:

• The reflection not being an exact mirror

• The choice of lighting to highlight the waterfall

• and the small divots of black to showcase the water.

That was the first view of the painting.

Then, it moved into:

• Did the artist intend for this to be perfect?

• Why did they choose this color palette?

• Why paint this in the first place?

But it didn’t stop there.

I continued staring at this godforsaken painting, and soon it started coming to life:

• The sounds of water crushing the ground emerged.

• The wind of the trees flowed against my skin.

I was now immersed in the painting itself.

A vibration sounded in my pocket.

“Kevin where are you at?” — 3:01 pm.

About an hour had passed since I started looking at this painting.

The story above was one of the lessons I took away from “Four Thousand Weeks.”

It inspired me to not only look at a painting for god knows how long, but also make many other changes.

Beyond time, there was a particular book about principles echoing itself inside my thick noggin me throughout the past few months.

“Hey, it’s time to read me.”

You may recognize the author as he also wrote The Psychology of Money, a book I’ve revisited not too long ago.

The book begins with a bang covering chapters like “Hanging by a Thread” and “Risk is What You Don’t See” transforming my mindset from constrained to excitement.
